The Enterprise Florida
Manufacturing Advisory Council (EFMAC) hosted the first ever
Manufacturing Summit on December 1-2 2004 in Orlando. Florida
manufactureres who make everything from synthetic diamonds
to shutters to skydiving equipment were in attendance, as
well as supporting businesses, state agencies, economic development
and professional organizations. This forum offered the opportunity
to bring diverse companies and manufacturing sectors together
to discuss issues common to them all for the purpose of helping
the Enterprise Florida Manufacturing Advisory Council develop
action items for improving Florida's manufacturing business
climate. Speakers on the summit's agenda included Governor
Jeb Bush, EFI's Kelley, former Michigan Governor and President
of the National Association of Manufacturers John Engler,
and former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives,
John Thrasher.
EFI established EFMAC in 2003 to help address the unique needs
of Florida's manufacturers. EFMAC has enlisted the support
of manufacturers, local, regional, and state manufacturing
associations, and the economic development organizations to
help communicate the many benefits manufacturing brings to
both local communities and the state.
