Biomolecular Identification and Targeted Therapeutics

 

 

BITT - Biotechnology Program

HCC will offer an associate of science and an associate of arts degree program in biotechnology by 2012.  The Biotechnology Committee was formed to develop and implement an Associate of Science degree. 

The committee is made up of four science teachers, two biology and two chemistry professors, BITT Project Manager, FLATE Executive Director, and academic deans at HCC Brandon.  The first two courses are developed and will roll out in January and August of 2010 with the remainder of the program soon to follow. Professional development activities which some of the committee members participated in were:


  • The University of Florida Center of Excellence for Regenerative Health Biotechnology;
  • Introduction to Industrial Biotechnology Certification
  • BioFlorida Conference – Amelia Island, Fl.
  • BioInternational – Atlanta, Ga.
  • BioManufacturing 2009 – Rochester, NY

  • RTI Biologics Lab Tour
  • USF Virtual MD Lab Tour


An advisory committee is being formed to help guide the curriculum development and feasibility of the much needed program in Tampa Bay.  This council is made up of key individuals in the biotechnology Industry in theTampa Bay region as well as staff and faculty of Hillsborough Community College, Brandon Campus.
